Chapter 9 Interlude

Isaac gets the confirmation he needed. Up next: a guest art!

Part 1 of transcript: A shot from below of Willis Tower in Chicago, surrounded by other nearby skyscrapers and the night sky. Inside an office, Remy scans his work ID at the front desk to clock out for the night. He turns to see Isaac standing behind him, looking nervous. They wear long heavy coats for the cold December weather. REMY: "Dude, are you okay?" ISAAC: "You're taking the Green Line home, right?" REMY: "Why?" Isaac walks past him towards the elevator. Other coworkers mill about. ISAAC: "I want to talk to you about something. I'll walk you to the station." REMY: "Yeah. Sure." Outside, they walk down the sidewalk side by side. Commuters drive past, crossing the bridge over the Chicago river that they approach. ISAAC: "I know this is going to be a strange question, but I need you to answer honestly." REMY: "The more you build it up, the more nervous it makes me. Just spit it out, man." ISAAC: "Um. So. Your friend Akiva... You said she lives with some friends in the Ravenswood area. Do you know who those friends are?" Remy looks up at him in shock. They both stop walking on the bridge, a downriver scene of the downtown Chicago buildings behind them. Other pedestrians pay them no mind. REMY: "You're right, Isaac, that IS a weird question." ISAAC: "But do you?" REMY: "Why?" ISAAC: "Because I think someone I know lives there. It's that old creepy house with the towers, right? The one off the Montrose stop. Obviously I can't just barge in there if I'm not certain." REMY: "Look, I signed papers saying-" ISAAC: "You too, then! Why you??" REMY: "Me? What about you? How much do you know?" ISAAC: "Okay. No more messing around. I know you've seen Eden and that's why you had to sign papers. Which means you saw him while visiting Akiva, because they're in a coven together. I snuck into the Council and found their files. So don't lie to me. I just need to be sure he's in that house." Isaac holds the bridge railing, tears filling his eyes.

ISAAC: "Remy, please help me. You've no idea how important it is to me that I find him. He's hurting and he needs me and hell if I'm going to let some dumb Council stop me." He holds up one hand, looking down and Eden's bright blue energy flowing over it, protecting him. ISAAC: "And honestly, I need him too. He's... He's my person. I always knew that. And now I can get him back. Nothing will get in my way of finding him, but I need your help to make it easier. If someone you love was in this situation, wouldn't you do the same? If it was Dakota, wouldn't you do anything?" Remy looks up at him, expression full of worry and empathy. He closes his eyes. REMY: "Yeah. I would. I signed an oath of silence, so... to answer your question?" Remy nods firmly. Isaac smiles at him, eyes shining. REMY: "But if you're gonna go, do it in a few days. After this THING they're doing is over. It's really important to them. ALL of them." Isaac wipes his face as they stand on the windy bridge, surrounded by the illuminated city at night. ISAAC: "Okay. Thank you so much, Remy. You're a really good friend."
